NYBSA Travel Program
REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR FOR 2026/2027 TRYOUTS
The NYBSA travel program is an extension of the Norcross recreational youth baseball and softball program and is intended to offer select players the opportunity to play at a more competitive level of baseball and softball using dedicated training programs and organized tournaments.
The NYBSA Travel program's top priority is the development of our players as good citizens and athletes. Developing players in terms of baseball knowledge, skill, character, love of the game and sportsmanship remain our top priorities above winning. We achieve this goal by reinforcing respect for the game, good sportsmanship, congenial fellowship, and consistent development.
TRAVEL PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Developing players knowledge, skill, character, love of the game and sportsmanship are our top priorities. Our program is designed to develop the complete player on and off the field. We do this by reinforcing respect for the game, good sportsmanship, congenial fellowship, and consistent development.
- We believe practice and player development are more important that tournament wins and rings. Our program leans heavily on practice and development to reinforce proper fundamentals while introducing advanced concepts and strategies.
- We believe the entire roster should train at multiple positions. Our travel program rejects the notion of Pitcher-Only and Designated Hitter roles.
- We encourage our players to get involved in multiple sports or activities, either at school or in the community. The skills and lessons learned in other activities has a direct impact on performance on the field.
- We believe class never goes out of style. We expect our coaches, players and parents to conduct themselves positively and to represent the Norcross program with integrity.

TRAVEL PROGRAM FAQS
When does the travel season begin/end?
The travel season begins on August 1st and ends after the last tournament game played, typically late-June/early July.
Who is eligible to play on a Norcross Travel Team?
Travel teams are available to players from ages 10U through 18U.
All teams must be made up of at least 51% of players who have either played in the most recent two seasons in the NYBSA recreation program or who live/go to school within the Norcross High School cluster.
What is the process for prospective managers to apply for a Travel team?
After the Spring recreation season concludes, prospective managers must complete an application and pass a background check in order to be eligible to coach a travel team. Topics, such as coaching philosophy, qualifications, past performance, and player/parent feedback, are also taken into consideration for each manager application.
Travel team manager applications are reviewed and approved by a majority vote of the Travel Committee. This committee consists of the President, Vice President, Baseball Commissioner, Softball Commissioner, Travel Commissioner, and the Player Agent.
How are teams selected?
Travel managers, both new and existing, are required to hold open tryouts at Pinckneyville Park prior to the start of each new travel season. Tryouts must be publicized at least one (1) week prior to the actual tryout date.
Travel managers make final decisions on players, but we highly encourage collaboration between team managers, the NYBSA Travel Committee and/or a 3rd party veteran travel manager from within the park. The Travel Commissioner may also either assist or recommend a 3rd party assistant to manage the tryout.
What is the level of commitment expected?
The NYBSA travel program is a year-round program. While we encourage players to participate in multiple sports or activities at school or in the community, players cannot play for another travel baseball/softball team while being a member of the NYBSA Travel Program.
In the fall, players can expect 2-3 practices weekly, either at Pinckneyville Park, or at local indoor training facility managed by our sponsor partners. In addition, players can expect to play a 2-3 Sunday-only tournament season.
Winter workouts are at the discretion of the team manager. They may consist of on-field or indoor workouts focused on throwing, hitting, and position-specific training.
In the Spring, players can expect 2-3 practices weekly complemented by 5-8 Saturday/Sunday tournament schedule, depending on the age group.
What kind of financial investment should I expect?
Our travel program is unique compared to other “full program” organizations. Three of the biggest expenses that families pay for when joining a full program are administrative fees, renting field space, and insurance coverage. Because our program operates under the NYBSA GCAA banner, we can substantially reduce or eliminate these costs.
- The NYBSA Travel program is volunteer-operated.
- As NYBSA is the official GCAA for Pinckneyville Park, our travel program teams have priority access to our seven fields and batting cages.
- Because we operate under the Association, the travel program is covered under the Association’s existing insurance policy.
Total investments for each travel team are determined by the head coach; that said, expenses for NYBSA Travel teams generally fall into the following categories:
- Player Registration: There is a $175 player registration fee.
- Tournaments: Depending on the tournament sponsor and location, individual tournaments can run from $500-$800 per team.
- Uniforms: NYBSA partners with multiple vendors to provide uniforms. The number and type of uniforms are determined by the head coach.
- Optional Training: Optional individual and team development programs are determined by the head coach.
- Miscellaneous: Equipment, umpires for scrimmages, and other administrative fees should be expected.
